Monochromatic Flower Card - A Blog Named Hero Monochromatic Challenge + Hero Arts Artistic Dahlia

Hey folks!

We're still playing along with the Monochromatic Challenge! In today's video, I'm using the Hero Arts ARTISTIC DAHLIA STAMP & DIE Combo. Now I know my card isn't 100% monochromatic folks, but this dahlia just begs for green leaves and I did pull in enough of the same colors, it works well enough. I also love the idea of using die with a wood mounted stamp and having the ability to create dimension with it.

Stamping with wood mounted stamps can seem so tricky. Since none of us have been blessed with X-ray vision, it's hard to tell exactly where you are stamping. Fortunately there are tools out there that help you line everything up perfectly and stamp your image exactly where you need it. Be sure to watch the video folks, I show you exactly how to use a special tool and the Hero Arts ARTISTIC DAHLIA Stamp get it your image stamped perfectly on the card panel.

If wood mount stamps aren't your gig, Hero Arts also offers the DAHLIA STAMP & CUT as well. However this one doesn't have the extra dies for layering. The ability to layer up this flower is what I love most about this!

You can watch the video on how I made my cards HEREYou can also click the thumbnail link below.

For my card today, I used Hero Arts SOFT GRANITE Ink, because I wanted to do no line coloring and I also stamped the image several times so I could color each layer separately. Again, you can see how I do this in the video.

The hardest part on this card for me was I really, really wanted those leaves to be green. I did a test run, where I colored everything in purple and I just wasn't feelin it. So I decided to stray a wee bit from the traditional monochromatic look and color my leaves in green. I'm glad I did because I love how they help that flower stand out from my background! To help tie in more of the purple and give a nod to the monochromatic feel, I added a little bit of the purple in the leaves.

I used Distress Inks in MILLED LAVENDER, DUSTY CONCORD and CHIPPED SAPPHIRE for my ink blending. Then I splattered Hero Arts WHITE IREDESCENT Shimmer Spray on top of it. You could also us Hero Arts SOFT PURPLE, GRAPE JUICE and NAVY Inks.

In the video I talk about how you don't need to color in all of the layers in full. Most of each layer gets covered up by the layer that sits on top. Once I had all of the layers colored in, I used three dimensional foam tape to pop each layer up. This really plays up the full three dimensional feel of the flower.

That's it!

There's a few days left to participate in the MONOCHROMATIC Challenge folks! We love, love, love to see what you make and there are prizes available. Who doesn't love that?
