Stamped Gift Bags with Penny Black Sweet Perfume

Hey folks!

In today's video I'm sharing how to make a stamped gift bag. I'm using the Penny Black Sweet Perfume Cling Stamp, but you could use any stamps you like. These little bags can be perfect if you need something quick, but they're super cool if you want to make a big impact on something small. You can add small trinkets, candy, even gift cards inside them!

I was inspired for a couple of reasons to make this gift bag. My girl Vanessa at BUTTERFLY REFLECTIONS INK suggested that I color this gorgeous stamp (How could I say no?) While I was pondering on what I wanted to do with it, my daughter asked if I could make a gift bag for a birthday.  Peas and carrots folks.

You can watch the video on how I made my cards HERE. You can also click on the thumbnail link below.

I used 80 lb. Neenah SOLAR WHITE Cardstock, which doesn't make for a super sturdy bag, but it was strong enough for the necklace, candies and gift card that went in to it. You could also use Neenah 110lb. if you have that, watercolor cardstock such as Tim Holtz WATERCOLOR Paper and I've also seen this bag done is a lightweight chipboard such as THIS one. You would need to cut off the back flap that folds down towards the back, but it works.

Again, I used the Penny Black SWEET PERFUME Cling Stamp, but oh boy, the skies the limit on stamp options folks. A few of my other choices would be the Penny Black FLOWER CASCADE, the Altenew MEGA SUCCULENT would be super fab and easy. You could also use the Hero Arts MAGNOLIA (love!) or the Avery Elle HAND DRAWN FLORALS Stamp Set would be off the hook too! I chose florals folks, but really anything would work!

Just in case you didn't catch all of the dimensions in the VIDEO, I have a diagram for you! You could right click and save it if you like. I didn't format it for print quality. In other words, if you print it out, I can't guarantee that it will print out to a true 8.5" x 11". It's meant to be more of a guide as apposed to a template. I also suggest that you use it with the VIDEO.

After I had my bag scored and folded, I place it in my MEMORY Misti. If you don't have one, a large stamp press would work. I've used the Fiskars LARGE Stamp Press for a long time. That being said, I love having the option of a MEMORY Misti. I feel that it's been a solid investment since I like having the option for bigger projects and cards.

I also used the Inkon3 BLACKOUT Ink today. This is the first official project I've done with it and I really liked it. It was nice and black. Which I love! My pad is super juicy, but I don't mind that so much. Just something to keep in mind.

Since this was my daughter's gig, I had her choose the colors. She liked the colors on the packaging so we stuck with those. I love deep, intense color so I, of course, went that direction when actually chose which ones to use. I have all of the colors listed in the thumbnail links below and I talk about them more in the VIDEO.

She also wanted me to leave the back side of the back empty so she could write something there. You could totally stamp something there like a sentiment, but I like her idea of being able to write on it.

I did fit a sentiment on the front. When I stamped the flowers, I intentionally moved the stamp over to leave room for the sentiment. I used one from the Hero Arts MANY EVERYDAY MESSAGES Stamp Set. This stamp set is a must have for your stash folks! It's loaded with useful sentiments.

I add a few finishing touches with a Prismacolor WHITE Pencil, a Sakura YELLOW Glaze Pen and loads of Nuvo AQUA Shimmer. Do keep in mind that if you use shimmer, let it dry really good before you fold the box up. Trust me.

I show in the VIDEO  how I tie up the bag. I used a standard PAPER PUNCH so I could weave the May Arts TWINE through them. I feel this keep the bag more secure. Plus it's cute! You could easily just clip the top close however.

That's it!

  1. Cynde, this is just stunning. I have made bags like this before but never coloured this beautifully. Very well done.
