Inlaid Die Cutting and Inktense

Hey folks!

I'm back! Whew! What a trip! I've come to the conclusion that I am not an electrician. Spending the extra time with my husband was great, but electrical work is not my gig. I shall stick to paper crafting. For real.

So, I've had Catherine Pooler on my mind the last couple of days. Well, because A) she fabulous and B) I subscribe to her blog and have had a few emails from her lately. She's been a busy girl and has something really cool coming up for all of us crafty peeps, so be sure to go to her blog and see what's up. Anyway, what I've been thinking about is how much she loves inlaid die cutting and it got the ol' wheels turning in my head.

If you're interested in any of the products I've used I will have links for you at the end of the post!

I usually won't buy anything unless I have a plan for it, but I am over the moon for the Butterfly Tendrils Die from Simon Says Stamp and bought it anyway. So, when I got to thinking about what die to use for the Inlaid Die Cutting Technique, I thought of this one. It's so intricate and has just the right amount of detail, you could do soo many different things with this. I however, can't get enough of the Derwent Inktense Watercolor Pencils lately and I've been itching to watercolor with a Wink Of Stella Pen instead of plain water.

This was so easy it's ridiculous. I used the die on a piece of Ranger Distress Watercolor Paper the popped the die cut out and colored it in with the Pencils. I blended the color out with a Wink of Stella Pen that had run out, but I had re-filled with water. It's so sparkly and fun! Then, I trimmed the panel down a lil bit and put the Die Cut back into the negative space after I added some Fun Foam behind it. This not only lifts the panel off the Neenah White Cardstock Card Base, but also gives the Die Cut some tho adhere to.

Before I attached the Panel to the Card Base, I used the Bold Plaid Stencil and Spring Rain Ink by Simon Says Stamp and blended the ink on a small strip of Neenah White Cardstock with a Ranger Ink Blending Tool. You can't see the entire pattern of the Stencil this way, but I really liked just the stripes peeking out. To tie in the small amounts of Fuchsia on the panel, I took a thin strip of the Ranger Distress Watercolor Paper and colored it in with Fuchsia Inktense Watercolor Pencil and blended it with plain water. From there it was a matter of attaching all of my pieces to the Card Base! Pretty stinkin easy.

I stamped a sentiment from the Sentimental Circles Stamp Set by Simon Says Stamp with Jet Black StazOn Ink on a piece of Silhouette Vellum Paper and attached it to the Card with a lil bit of Ranger Multi Medium Matte. I needed to hide the adhesive, so I added a small piece of twine, but in hindsight I would have preferred something else. What? I don't know, but I'm just not loving the twine.

That's it! It's great to be home and I can't wait to continue to dive in to all of the fabulous new stuff waiting on my work table. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy!

Until next time!
