Friday Feature - Banners & Blooms - Concord & 9th Guest Design

Hey folks!

I'm excited to share with you my first Concord & 9th Friday Feature using the March 2018 release! In today's video I'm showing you how I do simple, but creative masking with the Concord & 9th Ribbon Banner Die. Then I Copic color the new Banners & Blooms Stamp Set.

Each Friday this month, I will share with you a part of the release. I can't wait to share it all! First up is the BANNERS & BLOOMS Stamp Set and the RIBBON BANNER Die. The Ribbon Banner Die was released in October 2017, so you may already have it.

You can watch the video on how I made my cards HERE. You can also click on the thumbnail link below.

I love that Concord & 9th makes sure that you can stretch their products. The RIBBON BANNER Die was released to work with the CHRISTMAS CHEER Turnabout Stamp last year, but they were using their smarticles when they design the BANNERS & BLOOMS Stamp Set so they coordinate perfectly.

You could simply die cut the RIBBON BANNER Die out of any cardstock you like, but I wanted to do something a little different for todays card. I did, in fact, die cut a scrap of cardstock with it, but I also die cut some Simon Says Stamp MASKING PAPER as well. You can see how I did the masking in the VIDEO.

Since I knew I was going to Copic color my panel, I used Neenah SOLAR WHITE Cardstock and Hero Arts INTENSE BLACK Ink to do my stamping. I have my color choices in the thumbnail links below. I also used my MINI MISTI Stamping Tool. You could definitely use a clear block if you like, but I wanted to make sure I had my placement perfect. I would recommend THIS Catherine Pooler Stamp Block.

I used the EK Success WRITING PEN to trace around my die cut RIBBON BANNER "stencil". I talk more about this in the VIDEO, but keep in mind no matter what pen you use to do this, make sure it's the same line thickness as the stamp. You want them to look like it was designed that way.

I thought about heat embossing the sentiments on to the banner. I would have use Versafine ONYX BLACK and Hero Arts CLEAR Embossing Powder, but in the end I decided to simple stamp them with the Hero Arts INTENSE BLACK Ink instead. I just made sure to stamp it several times.

You could also save stamping the sentiments last and use Wplus9 BLACK Ink. It's not Copic friendly, but it's a beautiful crisp black ink.

I mention in the VIDEO other medium options for this card. Think a loose watercolor done in Tim Holtz DISTRESS OXIDE Inks on an off white Watercolor Cardstock like the Arteza WATERCOLOR Paper would be lovely. I also think POLYCHROMOS Colored Pencils on Simon Says Stamp BLACK Cardstock with Hero Arts UNICORN White Pigment Ink would be fab!

To finish off my card, I used a BLACK Gelly Roll Pen to add dimension to the little black flowers. Of course I had to have some sparkle so I used the Nuvo Aqua Shimmer CLEAR Glitter Gloss Pen to the highlights of all of my flowers.

That's it!

Also be sure to check out HEATHER RUWE and ROWENA MINIACI. These lovely ladies have some inspiration for you today as well!
