Hero Arts MMH 09/17 + Stamp Layering By Ink Brand

Hey folks!

I'm back today to share several cards with you! I thought it would be great to not only share with you a super easy stamp layering set, but a bunch of different inks and how they look using the same stamps!

If you're interested in any of the products I've used, I have links (some affiliate links) throughout and at the end of the post. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.

If you're interested in watching the video on how I make this you can go HERE or click on the picture below.

If you follow my blog at all you'll know that I love, love, love, the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero Kits. They never disappoint in terms of usability in each kit and the value is AH-mazing. September's (2017) kit was just as fab, but it had a stamp layering stamp set. I usually shy away from those, because A) coloring is my gig and B) I can never seem to get it right.

This stamp set HOWEVER was easy peasy. In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I thought it would be a great stamp set to show off some different ink brands. I have TONS of inks folks. No one neeeeeds that many, but since I have them, I wanted to give you all a quick comparison.

The card above is stamped with Hero Arts Shadow Inks. I used Butter Bar, Orange Soda, Red Royal, Green Hills, Field Greens and Cup O' Joe. The kit came with Pumpkin Pie, Cup O' Joe, Butter Bar, Orange Soda and Tangerine, but I'm a sucker for a nice red in my fall colors and I liked the idea of a green pumpkin. Certainly don't EVER feel like you have to own oodles of inks to make pretty things. You don't. I have ink issues.

Hero Arts Inks almost always stamp a lil splotchy, but they are know for smoothing out and drying back to a softer color. Hero is one of my all time faves, simply because they have a really nice line of colors.

The card above, pictured on the right was stamped with Gina K inks. I used: Sweet Corn, Tomato Soup, Cherry Red, Warm Cocoa and Dark Chocolate. I haven't used them a bunch, but I have noticed that they also smooth out and dry back like Hero, but when you stamp them as they dry back they almost "melt" together and I can see a lil bit of a change in the colors. You could get around this by making sure each layer is dry before you stamp the next, but I enjoy this effect. Wplus9 Inks do this as well. I adhered it to a Simon Says Stamp Schoolhouse Red Card Base.

The card on the left was stamped using Lawn Fawn inks. My inks were: Sunflower, Pumpkin Spice, Chili Pepper, Doe and Walnut. I think these inks share all of the same properties as Hero Arts, but they have a color palette thats super unique to them as they do with all of there products. I use Lawn Fawn inks quite a bit for ink blending. Plus for two of my cards today, I used Lawn Fawn Chili Pepper cardstock.

On the card pictured above, I used Catherine Pooler Inks. Tiki Torch (my fave CP yellow), Tutti Frutti, and Rockin Red. I didn't have a Catherine Pooler brown at the time I made these so I used Lawn Fawn's Doe and Walnut inks. I do show in the video a quick peek at Icing on the Cake which is a darker brown ink that Catherine Pooler offers.

I loooooove CP inks. They are a what you see is what you get kind of ink. They stamp super clean and crisp, they don't dry back too much and you have loads of other options with them. You can also water color with them, which is fab! I will be sharing some projects with you for the next Stamp of Approval release (SOON!!) and you'll be able to see a closer look at these.

The card above on the right was stamped with Ranger/Wendy Vecchi Inks. I used Ranger's Chrome Yellow, RWV Tiger Lily, Red Geranium, Leaf Green, Fern Green and Potting Soil. Almost all Ranger inks seem drier on the ink pad to me. When I say drier, I mean that a portion of my image doesn't stamp. Splotchy is more like all of the images stamps, but you can almost see a spotty (splotchy look) at first. HOWEVER, Ranger inks are gorgeous! I've started making sure that I have all of the re-inkers and I keep these pads a lil bit moister than my other ink pads.

The card on the left is My Favorite Things Pigment Inks. I used: Lemon Chiffon, Orange Zest, Cranberry Cocktail, Limelight, Cactus and Milk Chocolate. MFT discontinued these so all of these links take you the their Hybrid counterpart. I'm also a HUGE fan of their Hybrid inks and you can't go wrong with those, but I still wanted to include the pigment version for those who have them. I find that MFT pigment inks have a tendency to pool a lil bit on the stamp, but it doesn't seem to effect the outcome of the image. You can simply re-ink and re-stamp as many time as you need to. The colors are fab and they dry back to a nice non-chalky finish.

The card above was stamped with Altenew Inks. I used: Warm Sunshine, Autumn Blaze, Velvet, Frayed Leaf, Moss and Dark Chocolate. Altenew is known for their stamp layering sets and their inks are designed for that purpose. Aside from that, I like to use them because they stamp clean and crisp, they dry back a teensy bit, but loads of thought have been put into their color lines and they all work well together.

Last, but certainly not least, the card pictured above was stamped with Avery Elle Inks. This one has: Mimosa, Papaya, Vino, Kraft and Truffle. Avery Elle inks are different from MFT in that they don't pool up on the stamp and when they dry some of them seem chalky to the touch to me. I don't mind it, I just try to keep that in mind. Their color line is also amazing and I like to ink blend with these as well.

Avery Elle also has precut and pressured A2 sized card bases that you can buy. They match their inks and I LOVE the weight and quality of them. On 2 of my cards today, I used the Papaya Card Base from the Citrus Collection.

I finished my cards by using the Hero Arts Tweed Stencil with Ranger Perfect Pearls in Perfect Pearl after I did some ink blending with Tim Hotlz Distress Oxide Ink in Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade and Fired Brick. Be sure to check out the video to see how I did that. I also used some DMC Gold Floss and Pretty Pink Posh Gold Sequins and Clear Droplets.

That's it!

As always, I hope you enjoyed my cards today and thanks SO much for stopping by!

Until next time.
