Hey folks!
Thanks so much for joining me as a stop in the Altenew 2018 BLOG HOP! If you've been with me before, welcome back! If you are new here, WELCOME! This is a gorgeous release folks and there's loads of inspiration along the hop plus a giveaway to be sure to hop along and check out the details for the giveaway!
In today's VIDEO, I'm sharing a clean and simple card using the Altenew WISPY BEGONIA from the release. I also show you how I use a minimal amount of colors to create a big impact!
If you've followed me even for 5 minutes it's probably not hard to figure out that I am a a sucker for florals and I'm an even bigger sap when it comes to ALTENEW florals. Favorite. Flowers. Ever. I absolutely swoon for floral stamps and no line coloring.
No line coloring can feel a bit tricky and intimidating, but I have one detail I keep in mind when I choose images for this technique.
You can watch the video on how I made my cards HERE. You can also click the thumbnail link below.
One of the things I look for in floral images (really any image for that matter) is white space. How much space do I have to color in? It doesn't matter how complex the image is illustrated, if you have a decent amount of white space, it makes coloring sooo much easier.
The WISPY BEGONIA Stamp Set is a perfect example of this. The petals on the flower have bends, folds and movement, but the petals themselves are wide open and that helps make more sense on where are shading and highlights need to go especially without black outlines.
Be sure to watch the VIDEO folks, I talk about this in a little more detail.
I did mask off the images when I stamped them, but I also made sure to make masks for all of them in case I wanted to do any ink blending. I decided not to, but you totally can if yo like and if I were to do it again I would use, TEAL CAVE, AQUALICIOUS and DEW DROPS. These color lean more towards the blue in the blue-green family and would be a perfect cool tone complement to the colors in the flowers and leaves.
To stamp my images, I used Altenew's LIMESTONE Ink. Altenew Inks are waterbased, but can totally be used with both Altenew ARTIST Markers and Copic's. For my sentiment, I used INDUSTRIAL DIAMOND Ink.
I also talk in the VIDEO about keeping my color choices to a minimum to color this in. You don't always need a bunch of colors to make a big impact folks. Sometimes it's best to keep it simple. You can still get your desired results without a bunch of extras.
To finish off my card, I used a pen and ruler to make a faux frame. I skipped any embellies.
That's it! Be sure to checkout ALTENEW'S full release folks and hop along! You're going to love it!
You should have arrived here from KYMONA TRACEY's blog. Next up is LYDIA EVANS and if you haven't already, you can start at the beginning of the hop with ALTENEW!

ReplyDeleteYour card is stunning! That flower is beautifully colored. You said it was simple but for someone like me who doesn't do a lot of coloring and forgets how-it doesn't look so simple. I want to try this technique of using both markers and pencils. It does make a gorgeous look. Until recently I do t think I'd ever seen people use both. Thanks for the coloring video. It was very helpful.
