Happy Halloween! New kit!

We just had Christmas in July, now it's time for Halloween in August! While I can not bring myself to wrap my brain around making anything, even remotely related to the Yuletide festivities (when it's 100 degrees out), I have no problem making a haunted house or a witches hat. I know. Go figure.

Halloween is hands down, my favorite holiday. There isn't another holiday that you can really let creativity reign like you can for Halloween.

For years I made my kid's costumes. When I say I made them, I mean I MADE them. There was no "let's just throw something together really quick and call it good." Oh no. It was all out. No detail was to small. Halloween would no sooner be over for one year, we'd get through Christmas and by January it was time to decide what to do for the following year. I would have to start on them no later than March.

I realized at one point that almost all of the costumes found in stores were a huge waste of money. I would get so frustrated because they never meet my quality vs. cost standards. Oh they're cheap, but only in terms of quality. The other and likely the biggest thing too is, my kids would be so excited to pick out they're costumes and then it would come time to actually wear them and they would have to wear a coat over it. Let's face it folks, we live in Montana and Halloween is guaranteed to be a cold and frosty night. What a bummer...For some, if not most kids, a big part of the All Hallow's Eve excitement IS the costume. At least for my kids anyway.

So one year, I realized how ridiculous it all was. I'm a crafty girl. I can sew. I'll make their costumes, they will be fabulous and they will be warm! Ok, a little over the top maybe, but I'm ok with that. The biggest trick (no pun intended) was to put together this amazing, quality costume and not spend a small fortune doing so. This is when I learned that you should never buy anything 'crafty" related without a coupon. Ever! I'll be honest, by the time I was done with them, I absolutely spent more than I would have buying them from a box store, but we're talking quality vs. cost here peeps. The look on my kids faces when they wore them was priceless! My kids also love that they have these to keep for many years and their costumes are something they can (maybe) share with their own kids someday.

The last couple of years have fallen short in the costume department, unfortunately. This year will be no exception. Oh, we will still do costumes and they will be great (I hope), but without all of the months and months worth of preparation. Thank goodness Zombie costumes are easy! I'm making a promise to myself, that next year WILL be a different story. My oldest daughter will be almost 18 by Halloween 2015 and she has informed me that she will be done with the "Mom Made My Costume" gig by then. So. I will have to make sure it's the best one yet.

So, the reason I shared that with all of you folks is, SVG Cuts launched a new kit last night. I'm sure it's not hard to figure out that it is a Halloween themed kit. I can't wait to start working on this one! I say this with all of the kits they launch, but this is especially true with this one, given how passionate I am about this particular holiday. Check it out below.

Haunted Forest SVG Kit by SVG Cuts.
If this isn't fabulous then I don't know what is! This is the Bewitched House. I have the same paper Mary used on this kit. It's An Eerie Tale (Amazon link) by Graphic 45 (Graphic 45 website), but I really want to go a lot more gothic and darker with this.
Hansel and Gretal come to mind when I look at this house.
Moon Card. I can think of several thing that moon would be a great element!
Witchy Hat. Gotta be honest, this is the one I'm looking forward to the most.
Jack O' Lantern. Look at that! Just look at it!
Jack O' Lantern Card. Again, so many different uses, so little time.

If I wasn't in a hurry to get moved and unpacked, I am now! Speaking of which I should probably get back to packing....
