Watercoloring With Clear Stamps - A Blog Named Hero - Hero Arts Color Layering Flamingo

Hey folks!

It's time for a new A Blog Named Hero Challenge. The challenge theme is watercolor and in today's video I'm going to show you how to use those clear stamps to get an awesome watercolor look! Hero Arts Color Layering Stamp Sets are perfect for this technique because you can really build up those colors and take advantage of the details!

Be sure to stay tuned folks! I'm going to share the details on the Hero Arts 2018 Summer Release Blog Hop!

You can watch the video on how I made my cards HERE. You can also click on the thumbnail link below.

I like a faux frame on my cards and you can easily mask one ff, but I took the esasy route today folks and used the Hero Art Nesting RECTANGLE Infinity Die and lightly traced the inside of it with a pencil.

I also used my MISTI Stamping Tool because I was using the Hero Art Color Layering FLAMINGO Stamp Set. You could totally use a stamp block and line up your images, but the beauty of the MISTI is you can be sure your images will be lined up perfectly. Plus if you need to stamp the same layer repeatedly like I did (be sure to watch the VIDEO) it helps a bunch.

I used Tombow DUAL BRUSH Pens today. You could use sever different types of watercolor, but I find these pens work the best. I have my color choices listed in the thumbnail links below.

Before I stamped my images, I made sure to do a light wash inside my faux frame first. You can totally stamp directly over the top with other colors and nobody will ever know the difference. This works the best because then you aren't trying to get that color in and around the images after they are stamped.

The other thing I like about this technique is you can control how loose your watercoloring looks. I kept mine pretty crisp and clean, but if you want a looser more traditional watercolor look, you'll just add more water.

I find, as always, the paper you use makes a big difference. I use some Arteza WATERCOLOR Paper because I had more control with my water, but Distress Watercolor Paper works pretty good too. I talk more about that in the VIDEO.

This is a really fun technique folks. It's been around for ages and it's a fabulous way to get more used out of those clear stamps!

That's it!

  1. Wonderful blue background - I feel as though I could dip by toes into that water! The hot pink flamingo is stellar too!
