April Birthday's!

Hi folks!

Today I would like to share the April Birthday cards I've done.

I really had a hard time deciding what to do with these. All 3 ended up being really easy, but I had a heck of a time trying to decide what I wanted to do. There are things I like and things I dislike about each, but I think the recipients will be happy, so it's all good!

If you're interested in any of the products I've used, I have thumbnail links at the end of my post. Also, I'm not going to list any of the Copic's I used, because my Copic resources are very limited compared to most and really peeps, you can use whatever colors that float you boat.

So, without further ado...

This first card is loud and maybe (ha ha) a little over the top. I knew what stamp set I wanted to use, but or the rest I was on The Struggle Bus and couldn't come up with anything. So, I literally decided to use what ever I had strung out on my craft table and just go for it.

All of Lawn Fawn's critters make me happy! These guys are from the Lawn Fawn Critters Down Under Stamp Set. I stamped them with Momento Tuxedo Black Ink on white cardstock, and colored them in with Copic's.

This is about the time I was not only on The Struggle Bus, I was DRIVING it!

So, working with what I had before me, I used Doll Pink and Orange Peel from Simon Says Stamp for the base and first panel. I'm loving the whole "make my own stencil" gig, so I used a stencil I cut out with my Silhouette Cameo 2 and acetate, It's the Amanda McGee Sunburst Mat Stencil. I mixed Ranger Texture Paste and Ranger Tim Holtz Squeezed Lemonade Re-Inker and applied that over the stencil. I also worked in Ranger Distress Wild Honey and Squeezed Lemonade onto the whole panel. I wasn't really happy (to be honest, I'm still not sure) how the colored played out, so skipping everything with paste on it, I blended the colors out more with a Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. The Sunburst Panel as well as a piece of Fun Foam, are die cut using the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Die, then mounted to my card base. I put the actual Stitched Rectangle piece back in the center of the panel, then glued on the Koala and Trees. I had also cut out a second Koala without the tree and put him over the top of the other one with Scotch Foam Mounting Tape, so he pops up. You can't see in the pic, but I went over his nose with Ranger Glossy Accents, so that had some dimension as well. I had a piece of Silhouette Vellum stamped in Hero Arts Black with a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Big Birthday Wishes.

Oh and the Doll Pink, Orange Peel Cardstock as well as the Big Birthday Wishes Stamp Set can be found in the April 2015 kit!

I searched high and low for just the right stamp set for this next one. My husband is a very picky particular man. He has a fairly limited amount of interests. This is not a bad thing (usually), it just means I have to get a lil more creative when it comes to him. He plays guitars, but I've done loads (yes, loads) of guitar themed things for him. He likes to snowmobile, but since his b-day is in April, that just seems odd to me. He loves the water, but again it's April peeps. So. That left me with the one last thing he really enjoys doing and that's his job. He's an Electrical Contractor. He loves it and he loves that he's good at it.

I was surfing the Simon Says Stamp website (I know, go figure) and came across the Lights Out Stamp Set by Mama Elephant. I tell ya, I added and removed the matching die set from my cart about four times before I decided not to get them. I wish I had. I like how it turned out over all, but I think having the die set, I could have done something a lil bit different and it would have been much cooler.

The idea behind this one was to make the Light Bulbs look like balloons. I don't think I quite hit the mark, but he'll like it, so it's cool.

All of the cardstock is Neenah White 110# including the yellow panel. After I cut that piece down to the size I wanted, I took my Lawn Fawn Sunflower Ink Pad (LOVE!!!) and inked the edges. I chose that color because it's the same ink I used on the Light Bulbs. The center of the bulbs are stamped with Versamark and Ranger Silver Embossing Powder. I had some left over Gold Stars cut from this project so I added those too. The Lights Out Set comes with a lil Chain Stamp, so on each Light Bulb I stamped just the chain with Hero Arts Silver Pigment Ink, then a second time below that with the whole stamp. The sentiment is from (you guessed it) Simon Says Stamp Big Birthday Wishes. Easy Peasy.

I have since purchased the matching dies. I don't know why I do that to myself and I do it all the time. I end up paying a fortune in shipping that way. Ridiculous!

Anyway...

I like everything about this card. Just not all together. At least, not all together for it's recipient. I made this for my little sister. I say "little" but she's not so little anymore. This however screams "Give me to a 5 year old little girl! She'll love it!!" I'm not even sure she likes pink. Geez...

The best way I can explain what I did here is, I had this picture in my mind for each detail, so I went from one thing to the next with out really focusing on what it would look like in the end.

I bought the Newton's Nook Birthday Bash Stamp Set, just so I could make her this card. Ok not this card, but a birthday card. She loves cats, so this was perfect. He's stamped in Momento Tuxedo Black and colored in with Copic's. I added some Wink of Stella to the balloon, because I just can't get enough of that stuff. In the same ink as the kitty, I used a sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Big Birthday Wishes Stamp Set (this set has been sitting out ever since I got it, so I've used it a bunch, obviously). The ribbon is some out of my stash from when I used to sew and I have no idea what brand it is. The bling on top is from Queen & Co and I got this in the Noel Mignon "Shine Bright" kit. The white panel is die cut using a die from the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangles set from Neenah White 110# and I used that cardstock for the card base as well. The back panel and the hot pink vellum are both from the Studio Calico Cirque kit. The back panel is from Life. Love. Paper. and the vellum is called Bubblegum Sprinkles by Doodlebug Design.

One would think I would just start over and do something different, but not me. Oh no! I'm a girl that stands by what I make. Even if I have to put a note in with it, explaining that my subconscious does NOT still see her as a 5 year old and I love her to pieces. :)

Until next time!
